Dr. Alfons Martinell , co-director of the UNESCO Chair Pau Casals, awarded in the 6th edition of the UCLG – Mexico City – Culture 21 International Award in the category of Personality.

June 2024 – Organised biennially, the UCLG – Mexico City – Culture 21 International Award organised by the international organisation United Cities and Local Governments and the government of Mexico City already has the winners of the 6th edition 2023-2024.

This award aims to celebrate the work of cities, local or regional governments, and leading personalities who have excelled in promoting innovative practices linked to the exercise of cultural rights, citizenship and sustainable development. The award has two categories: “City/Local or Regional Government” and “Personality”.

In the category of Personality, Dr. Martinell has been awarded as an outstanding personality worldwide for having made a fundamental contribution to cultural rights and to the relationship between culture and sustainable development. This award is designated by the Jury without an open competition process, based on confidential nominations only.

The Award Ceremony will take place in Mexico City on 25 July 2024, in the framework of an international seminar on cultural innovations and prospects for cities and territories.
